BBC1 The Big Winner On Night With No Football

The BBC In the absence of any football, Eastenders was last night’s big winner, attracting an average of 6.1 million adult viewers (a 40% audience share) with its intoxicating mix of gritty storylines and cockney camaraderie.

Also on BBC1, New Tricks was a hit with viewers, getting a peak audience of 4.7 million adults and an average figure of 4.6 million (a 23% audience share) in its 9pm slot. It followed on from medical drama Holby City, which brought in a peak of 4.2 million adult viewers and averaged 4.1 million (a 23% audience share).

Over on BBC2, the Wimbledon coverage was a big draw as Andy Murray took on French ace Julien Benneteau. The audience increased as play carried on into the evening, reaching a peak of 3.7 million adults (a 20% audience share). The match was eventually called to a halt at almost 9pm, with Murray winning 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 4-6. ABC1 Men were also pretty eager to see Murray in action, as a peak audience of one million watched him on centre court.

Reality fans weren’t left out last night as they swarmed to a daily dose of Big Brother, with the show getting a peak audience of 4.8 million adults and an average of 4.4 million (a 22% audience share).

House, Five’s American import starring Hugh Laurie, did well with its season finale, attracting an average audience of 2.2 million adult viewers (an 11% audience share), which peaked at 2.4 million.
