A gigantic goalkeeper will greet football crazy fans as they arrive at one of the main entry points to this summer’s World Cup.
Oliver Kahn, the second-choice goalkeeper of the German national team, has been recreated as a 65 metre wide 18 metre high behemoth, leaping across the four lane highway at Munich Airport.
The huge structure has been created by Kinetic, the out of home agency, on behalf of Adidas and promises to scare adults and children alike as they head off to watch Germany take on the mighty Costa Rica in the tournament’s opening match.
The replica weighs in at an astonishing 113 tonnes and comprises almost ten thousand bolts and ten thousand steel discs, with the parts equal to 11 km.
Mike Segrue, chief global client officer at Kinetic, said: “This sets a new standard in out of home advertising and needless to say we’re delighted that Adidas came to us for help with this project. We have always relished the challenge of making the impossible possible and this phenomenal campaign is no exception.”
Adidas’ out-of-home advertising push as official sponsor also includes the enormous glass façade at Frankfurt Airport terminal 2 (the biggest advertising site in Germany) featuring huge portraits of players such as French midfield maestro Zinedine Zidane and Brazil’s AC Milan hot-shot Kaka.
The Munich and Frankfurt Airport spectaculars are the flagship components of a major outdoor advertising campaign from Adidas during the World Cup, which was planned and bought by Kinetic.
