Magic 105.4 Is London’s Top Breakfast Listen

Magic 105.4 was crowned king at breakfast in London in Q3, enjoying a year on year rise in weekly reach of 22%, taking its listener base to 885,000.

The station was just ahead of 95.8 Capital Radio, which had a weekly reach of 880,000 having bolstered its listeners at breakfast by almost 5.5% period on period and 12.5% year on year.

Heart 106.2 FM dropped into third place with Londoners at breakfast, with a weekly reach of 810,00. Its breakfast show was down 7.3% period on period, although year on year it recorded an increase of 5.5%.

XFM 104.9 suffered a relatively large decrease in weekly reach in the third quarter, declining by almost 13.5% period on period, leaving it with a reach of just under 270,000 listeners.

There was a large year on year increase in weekly reach for Smooth FM London’s breakfast show, up almost 31% to 230,000.

Kiss 100FM also enjoyed a morning increase in its weekly reach, up by almost 9% to 702,000 Londoners, whilst Choice FM London enjoyed healthy year on year growth of just over 11%.

Total Virgin Radio London’s weekly reach declined 6% period on period, leaving it with just under 570,000 breakfast listeners.

There were mixed fortunes for Capital Gold London, which declined by around 33.5% year on year, yet was up almost 5.5% period on period, to give it a weekly reach of 211,000.

Meanwhile, LBC 97.3 and LBC News 1152 both recorded period on period downturns, of 3.2% and 2.6%. LBC 97.3 now has a weekly reach of almost 395, 000 whilst LBC News 1152’s stands at around 150,000.

Wogan, on BBC Radio 2, was once again sitting pretty at the top of the national breakfast table, with a weekly reach of almost 7.7 million, although he suffered a period on period decline of 3%.

Over on BBC Radio 1, Chris Moyles’ breakfast show fell by almost 4% period on period, although it was up year on year, by 2.5%. Its weekly reach now stands at nearly 7 million.

Classic FM now has a weekly reach of three million, having enjoyed both a period on period and year on year increase, of just over 6% and 4% respectively.

BBC Radio 3 had the smallest weekly reach of the national BBC stations at breakfast time, with 713,000 listeners. It suffered a period on period decline of around 2%.

The other national BBC stations, BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio FIVE LIVE had differing fortunes. BBC Radio 4 was down 4.5% period on period, leaving it with a weekly reach of around 5.9 million, whilst BBC Radio FIVE LIVE stayed relatively static period on period, with a weekly reach of almost 2.3 million.

talkSPORT (Talk Radio) bolstered its weekly reach by more than 6% period on period, and by over 9% year on year, taking it to almost 1.1 million.

Total Virgin Radio now has a weekly reach of around 1.1 million, after a period on period decline in weekly reach of around 4%.
