AOL Appoints Duncan George As New UK Sales Director

Duncan George Duncan George, former GCap Media commercial director, has been appointed by AOL as its UK sales director.

He will begin the new role next week and will be tasked with growing AOL’s sales capability to assist the online portal’s ad-supported web strategy.

George left his role at GCap Media in June (see Duncan George To Leave GCap) prior to the company releasing its full-year financial results.

He was responsible for driving national revenue and developing the group’s digital revenue proposition with the creation of a dedicated GCap Interactive division.

George left Capital Radio as sales director in 1997 to head up GWR’s sales operation where his first task was to set up their national sales business, Opus.

In his capacity as commercial director at GCap Media, he also sat on a number of industry boards including RAJAR.

George takes over from Giles Ivey who left to become the first digital commercial director of Times Media.

Last week saw AOL launch a mobile portal service giving its users access to content channels, email and AOL Web Surf, with targeted mobile banners available for advertisers (see AOL Launches Mobile Portal Service).

The portal gives users 30 days of continuous login to their email accounts and they can also customise their homepage and content channels to reflect their preferences.

Earlier this month the company acquired the online advertising company Quigo in a deal that could be worth over $300 million (see AOL Buys Targeted Ad Company In $300m Deal).

AOL is currently restructuring its operations, with the process set to be completed by the end of the year.
