All Eyes On BBC One’s Waking The Dead

Waking The Dead Waking The Dead once again managed to lure more than 6.5 million adult viewers to BBC One, with part two of the ‘Mask Of Sanity’ story line giving the channel a 27.4% audience share.

The conclusion of the two-part drama Trial And Retribution on ITV1 put up a good fight, taking a 23.5% share. Around 5.3 million adults tuned in as the plot unfolded to reveal that a serial killer was targeting white women with black boyfriends.

Channel 4’s new series of documentaries from acclaimed documentary-maker, Jane Treays, proved a success for the broadcaster in the wake of Celebrity Big Brother (see Big Bro Finale Crashes Out To Top Gear).

The Smallest People In The World explored the worlds of five American Primordial dwarf children, the smallest and rarest type of dwarf in the world. It attracted 3.8 million adults to the channel, giving C4 a 16% viewing share in the 9pm to 10pm timeslot.

The soaps also performed well last night. Emmerdale gained more than 8.3 million viewers (41%) early on in the evening, whilst the aftermath of the exposure of the truth surrounding Pauline Fowler’s death in Eastenders gained an average of 9.3 million for BBC One.

Coronation Street yet again hit the 10 million mark, giving ITV1 a 43.7% viewing share between 8.30pm and 9pm.
