New Woman Gets New Editor To Boost Title’s Appeal

New Woman Cover Lauren Libbert has been appointed as editor of woman’s monthly magazine, New Woman, effective on her return to Emap Consumer Media from maternity leave in May.

Libbert has worked in a number of roles across ECM, including editor of Top Sante, assistant editor at New Woman, acting deputy editor at More and news editor at Closer. She has also held positions at Eve as contributing editor and Take A Break as assistant editor.

“I’m delighted with this new role and am very much looking forward to taking NW to the next level,” she said.

“In this highly competitive market, no glossy monthly magazine can afford to stand still and NW is no exception. In the coming months, I aim to make the title even more of a must-buy for 20/30-something women and to simply make it great.”

New Woman, part of a market that recorded a mixed bag of results according to the latest ABC consumer magazine figures, felt an almost 4% year on year dip in its circulation, down by almost 9,000 issues to leave its total at 222,076 (see ABC Results Jul-Dec 2006:Glamour Leads Women’s Monthlies As Real Bows Out). The title’s circulation has followed a fairly steady pattern of decline in recent years.

David Davies, managing director of Emap Elan, added: “I’m delighted to announce Lauren’s appointment and look forward to her leading the team as NW continues its increasingly multi-platform approach following the re-launch of its website.”

New Woman‘s former editor, Helen Johnston, was recently appointed editor of IPC’s Now just months after overseeing the re-launch of the Emap title (see New Woman Editor Moves To Now).
