It was a great night for ITV1 on Saturday, with the final of Dancing On Ice attracting the biggest adult audience of the evening.
More than 8.6 million tuned in to the first edition of the show, giving the channel a 43.7% share between 6.30pm and 8pm, whilst the final programme, which saw hot favourite Kyran Bracken scoop the top prize, was seen by around 7.7 million adults (35.6%).
Following on from the finale, Aussie export Dame Edna Everage’s return to British screens was no match for Eurovision: Making Your Mind Up on BBC One. The gladioli toting drag queen lured 3.2 million adults to ITV1 for her first new show in years, which sees the bespectacled glamour puss interrogating A-list stars in her faux health spa.
The Eurovision entry singing contest saw the likes of E17’s Brian Harvey and The Darkness’ Justin Hawkins battle it out for the chance to enter their track in the 40-year-old camp contest.
Eventually, it was declared that Scooch’s song Flying The Flag (For You) had been chosen, after a bizarre on-screen mix up with the show’s hosts Terry Wogan and Fearne Cotton, which initially saw the pair declaring two different acts as the winner.
Almost 4.7 million adults (23%) watched the first edition of the show, whilst over 5.1 million (25.8%) joined BBC One for the results programme.
Five’s CSI: NY put up a good fight against Making Your Mind Up‘s results show and Dame Edna’s new offering, netting the broadcaster an average audience of almost 2.5 million adults (13%).
The last episode of Primeval, ITV1’s action packed sci-fi adventures of a team of scientists battling prehistoric creatures that appear through rips in time, gained around 5.2 million adults, giving the channel a 25.7% audience share between 8pm and 9pm.
Wild At Heart‘s finale, on ITV1 on Sunday night, which saw the Trevanion family overcome the lion attack and make a firm decision not to return to England but to remain in South Africa, retained its solid audience. Around 6.7 million adults on average tuned in to the drama (28.6%) whilst the start of ITV1’s Jane Austen series, Mansfield Park, was watched by almost 5.7 million adults (28.8%).
Castaway on BBC One, however, shed viewers from its launch show (see Castaway Returns To BBC One), taking an average adult audience of over 2.2 million (10%).
