Radio Set The latest RAJAR data for Q4 2006 shows that digital only stations continue to perform well, with year on year gains in the number of DAB households and people listening via DTV.

The percentage of adults who live in DAB households also rose slightly period on period, to 16%, whilst listening via DTV remained stable quarter on quarter at 39%. However, both were up year on year by 10%.

The frequency of listening to the radio via DTV is growing revealed RAJAR, with people listening more often.

In addition, the next RAJAR results are expected to show a large increase in ownership of DAB radios, as the effect of the Christmas period becomes more apparent. In the last 18 months, ownership of DAB radios has doubled.

The potential UK digital radio audience increased slightly period on period in Q4, reaching 55% of the UK population (27.2 million adults).

The RAJAR data also showed that 31% had visited the website of a radio station in the fourth quarter of 2006, whilst 15.4% had listened to a UK national station via the medium.

In addition, 22.2% said that they had listened via the internet at all, whilst 6% said that they had listened to a local station.

It was also revealed that 11% of mobile phone users (3.9 million) claim to listen to radio via a mobile phone – a rise from 10% in the third quarter.

A quarter of 15-24 year olds who own a mobile phone listen to the radio in this way, up from 23% in Q3.

In addition, the RAJAR data showed that over 2 million (17% of mp3 player owners) use their mp3 player to listen to downloaded podcasts – a rise from 15% in Q3.
