The Daily Sport has appointed Pam McVitie as the first female editor of the newspaper, replacing Dave Beevers, who left the company in February.
McVitie, previously deputy editor, will take up her new role immediately, working to re-establish the paper as a tabloid title.
McVitie, who has been working for the company for the past 10 years, has covered the editor role since Beevers took voluntary redundancy after 16 years at the paper.
The title was relaunched as a lads’ mag style newszine in April this year but, following a decline in circulation the paper’s new editor-in-chief, Murray Morse, is set to turn it back into a tabloid.
Morse said to the Guardian: “My brief was to turn the Sport back into a newspaper with a high story content.”
He added: “We have kept what was good about it and ditched what was not so good and gone back to a diet of news by bringing back traditional newspaper roles. Pam has had effective day-to-day control since February; this appointment is a reflection of all her hard work.”
The newspaper has also made a number of other appointments, including appointing Neil Goodwin as news editor and James Crisp as deputy news editor.
