BBC One BBC One’s second episode of the family roots programme, Who Do You Think You Are? featuring Boris Johnson, proved to be a winner with more than 7 million peak viewers last night.

The hour-long show, which uncovered details about Johnson’s Turkish great-grandfather, pulled in over 6.8 million average viewers with a 28% audience share between 9pm and 10pm.

ITV1 struggled to compete during the peak time slot with a repeat of Taggart, which only gained 3.1 million viewers with just below 13% of the audience share.

Channel 4’s Big Brother, on at the earlier time of 9pm, attracted more than 2.7 million viewers with an average audience share of 11.5%, while BBC Two’s House of Saddam slipped to just under 1.5 million viewers.

ITV peaked in the early evening slots, with a run of Emmerdale, Coronation Street and most of The Bill, as well as with some of its International Football coverage of the England v Czech Republic match in the late evening.

However, BBC One still remains the most popular choice with viewers throughout the day with Olympics 2008 – which gained a 35% audience share during the 12.45pm to 5.15pm afternoon slot.
