Sky Set To Double Arts Content With New Channel

Sky Sky has announced that it is doubling its output of arts content by creating a new Sky Arts channel, which is set to launch on October 20.

The bespoke arts channel will focus on more classical arts content, such as opera, classical music and fine art programming.

Sky is also set to rebrand Sky Arts 1 to broadcast more contemporary and cult programming, including live rock concerts and documentaries, while Sky Arts HD features content from both arts channels.

The three channels will broadcast 36 hours of arts programming a day in total, with autumn season highlights from Vanessa Mae, Suggs and Tim Marlow.

Sophie Turner Laing, managing director of Sky entertainment, said: “Arts is integral to the Sky platform and we now have the wealth and breadth of diverse arts content to warrant 2 dedicated arts channels.”

She added: “This is further evidence of our commitment to invest in the content that people love and demonstrates how pay-TV can meet viewers’ individual needs.”

The statement released by Sky today said: “These changes mean that Sky Arts will be investing in more content, including more exclusive commissions and sought-after acquisitions.”
