BBC One’s Who Do You Think You Are? banked more than 6.4 million viewers last night, gaining a substantial 27% audience share during the all important 9pm to 10pm time slot.
As the series comes to an end, the popular ancestry programme focused on David Suchet’s background, looking at the origin of his unusual surname in eastern Europe.
Also at 9pm, ITV1’s Lost in Austen, with Elliot Cowan and Jemima Rooper, only pulled in 2.8 million viewers with just 12% of the audience share.
Channel 4’s new reality series, The Family, came just behind ITV1 with 2.6 million viewers and an 11% audience share.
The new fly-on-the-wall series follows the life of a British household over a four month period, with the first episode introducing Simon and Jane Hughes and their four children.
Channel 4 attracted relatively high viewing figures yesterday with its three programme stint – starting off with Celebrity Come Dine With Me at 8pm, which picked up more than 3.4 million peak viewers, while Desperate Housewives attracted over 1.8 million peak viewers at 10pm.
Elsewhere, BBC Two’s new show, Dawn Gets Naked, with journalist Dawn Porter, only gained a 6% audience share between 9pm to 10pm, with an average of 1.4 million viewers.
