First quarter results from News Corporation show pre-tax profits up 8% to A$344m (around £160m). The company said that most of the increase could be attributed to BSkyB. Operating income fell after the sale of the South China Morning Post and a firm Australian dollar. “Substantial gains” in operating income in the filmed entertainment and Fox TV stations group compared with marginally lower profits from Harper Collins and UK newspapers.
