Johnston Press plans to merge Scotsman production

Johnston Press Johnston Press is looking at merging the production operations of its three Scotsman group titles in a bid to cut costs.

John McLellan, editor at the Evening News, is currently reviewing the production processes of the three Edinburgh papers, which also includes the Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday, according to reports.

McLellan said: “Clearly saving money is at the root of this. We have got to do something to ensure the longevity of these titles. We are looking at efficiencies to bring the titles closer together.”

Johnston’s move, which comes as budgets for next year are being finalised, is also expected to result in a number of redundancies.

Last week, Johnston announced a pay freeze for all employees by deferring next year’s basic salary review for six months.

Recent reports suggested the publishing group was looking to sell the Scotsman titles, however Johnston Press’s departing chief executive denied the rumours.
