MTV launches ad-free TV channel

MTV has launched a new ad-free high definition TV channel on Sky with 300 hours of original HD content.

The new international channel, named MTVNHD (MTV Networks High Definition), will be available on the Sky platform at channel 384, which carries no advertising.

MTVNHD, which is set to be the first music-based entertainment channel on Sky’s HD service, will feature original programming as well as a broad range of MTV library content.

Music content on the channel will include series such as MTV Unplugged and VH1 Storytellers as well as live music events such as the MTV Europe Music Awards and the MTV Video Music Awards.

The channel will also host a Nickelodeon programming block with shows such as SpongeBob SquarePants on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

MTVNHD and the upcoming launch of Disney Cinemagic HD will add to Sky’s group of 28 dedicated HD channels.
