Explosive Eastenders Beats Football By Just One Million Viewers

Eastenders BBC One’s Eastenders pulled in more than 7 million adult viewers last night, beating the football by just a million viewers.

With a 40.5% audience share between 7.30 – 8pm, viewers of the soap were treated to another eventful episode of the Doctor May saga, following the big explosion in the hour-long special the previous night.

Keith uncharacteristically managed to rescue Dawn from the burning house while Doctor May’s body was carried out in a bodybag.

ITV 1’s Euro 2008 first quarter final match between Germany and Portugal came a close second in the peak evening slot at 7.30pm, with 6.1 million adult viewers, a 30.5% audience share.

Germany knocked out Portugal with a 3 – 2 win, securing a place in the semi-finals against the winner of tonight’s fixture between Croatia and Turkey.

Even with the publicity surrounding Alex’s departure from the Big Brother house (see Big Brother’s Alex Kicked Out For Gangster Threats) the show only had an additional 300,000 viewers over the previous evening.

At its peak, it attracted more than 4 million viewers from 9.45 – 10pm, with an average audience share of 14.7% over the hour-long programme.
