UK Adspend Grew 4.2% In 2007

Advertising Association Logo UK advertising expenditure reached £19.4 billion in 2007, up 4.2% year-on year, according to figures published today in the Advertising Association’s Advertising Statistics Yearbook 2008.

This figure compares to annual growth of only 0.7% in 2006.

The press remains the largest medium, attracting 40% of all advertising expenditure. TV follows with 24%, while internet is the third largest medium accounting for nearly 16% of expenditure.

The fastest-growing media in 2007 were internet (up 39.5%), cinema (up 10.1%) and outdoor and transport (up 4.6%). Cinema benefited from increased admissions due to a strong film line-up while expenditure on outdoor was boosted by ongoing digitisation of the medium.

In April, the IAB and PwC released research which found that online advertising grew almost 40% year on year in 2007 to a new high of over £2.8 billion.
