BBC Two has unveiled its Autumn line-up, with a focus on factual programmes such as its new documentary The Fallen, by filmmaker Morgan Matthews.
The Fallen will remember every serviceman and woman who has died in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, with testimonies from families and an archive of events, in a three-hour documentary.
Roly Keating, controller at BBC Two, said: “The Fallen remembers all of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country in the current Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts and we hope will go some way towards creating a televisual memorial.”
He added: “The Fallen reflects the scale and ambition of factual programmes on the channel this season.”
Other factual programmes are set to include personal accounts from John Prescott and Griff Rhys-Jones as well as a major new series called Oceans.
Oceans will look at hidden stories from the planet’s oceans, including the Southern Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea, the Arctic Ocean and the Mediterranean.
BBC Two is also planning new comedies for the season – The Cup, about a Bolton-based football club and Beautiful People, an adaptation of the Simon Doonan memoirs featuring Meera Syal and Olivia Coleman.
Favourite shows Heroes, Top Gear and The Graham Norton Show will also return this autumn, with the Heroes 3 series airing shortly after its US premiere.
Kate Moss, Twiggy and Vivienne Westwood are all set to star in the landmark series British Style Genius, along with other big fashion names, while a new clothes swapping show called Twiggy’s Fashion Trade complements the series.
Other season highlights include the return of Raymond Blanc’s The Restaurant, where nine couples battle it out for the chance to open a restaurant with him, as well as James May’s Big Ideas and Live With Jools Holland.
