BBC1’s police drama series New Tricks continues to prove very popular with viewers.
Last night’s episode, which featured the team reopening the case of a murdered actor, pulled in Monday night’s highest ratings with 7.9 million adults (average viewing share of 37.3%). This comfortably beat ITV1’s latest edition of Police, Camera, Action!, which was only watched by 3.5 million adult viewers.
Elsewhere Channel 4’s feature-length documentary exploring Islam’s holiest book The Qur’an failed to better the viewing figures of main competitor BBC2’s evening line up. The two-hour documentary pulled in 975,000 viewers between 8pm and 9pm, compared to 2.4 million for University Challenge, 2.4 million for Chinese Food Made Easy and the last edition of Mary, Queen of Shops at 1.7 million.
Better for Channel 4 came from last night’s Big Brother, which saw Darnell elected Head of Household, attracting 2.4 million adults, with an average viewing share of 14.9%.
In the battle of last night’s soaps, Coronation Street proved the be the victor. The northern soap’s two episodes pulled in respective viewing figures of 8.1 million and 8 million adults. Eastenders had the next best audience of 7.1 million, while the good folk of Emmerdale held sway with 6 million.
