Overnights: The Street claims the top spot

The Street Jimmy McGovern’s The Street continued to secure the Monday evening top spot with more than 4.3 million peak viewers.

The BBC One drama series with Joseph Mawle pulled in over 4.3 million average viewers and a 20% audience share during the all-important 9pm to 10pm peak-slot.

At the same time, ITV1’s rival drama Monday Monday, starring Fay Ripley and Morven Christie, started off on a high of three million viewers but slipped down to an average of 2.6 million and a 12.2% share throughout the hour.

Five’s The Hotel Inspector, meanwhile, managed to bank third place in the peak-hour ratings war with 2.3 million peak viewers and a 10% audience share.

Elsewhere, BBC Two’s new two-part documentary The Trouble with Girls, which follows young women as they try to put their criminal pasts behind them, picked up 1.6 million average viewers and a 7.5% share, while Channel 4’s The Scandalous Adventures of Lord Byron pulled in 1.1 million and a 5.2% share.

Earlier on in the evening, ITV1’s soap triple line-up banked the highest ratings over its BBC One rival. Coronation Street attracted almost 9 million peak viewers and an impressive 43.7% share compared to Eastenders‘ 8.2 million and 37.7% share.
