Grand Designs pulls in the highest ratings

Grand Designs Grand Designs, Channel 4’s popular house-building programme, pulled in the highest ratings during the all-important 9pm to 10pm slot last night.

More than 4.2 million peak viewers tuned in to see the sixth episode of Kevin McClouds’ well-known design show, securing Channel 4 with the overall largest audience share (17.8%) during the peak hour.

However, BBC One’s Nature’s Great Events, with David Attenborough, came a close second with more than 4.1 million peak viewers and a 17.6% average audience share between 9pm and 10pm.

At the same time, ITV1’s long-running drama Taggart pulled in 3.8 million average viewers and a 16.9% share, while Five’s new Minder series attracted 1.1 million average viewers and a 5.1% share.

However, BBC Two’s new three-part series, Building the Olympic Dream, failed to impress viewers during the peak hour – the documentary only picked up 600,000 viewers and a 2.6% share.

Unsurprisingly, ITV1’s flagship soap Coronation Street attracted the overall highest ratings of the evening, pulling in more than 9.4 million peak viewers and a 41.8% average audience share between 7.30pm and 8pm.
