ITV’s new Holloway secures the peak-time ratings

ITV1’s new three part documentary series, about life inside Holloway women’s prison in north London, pulled in the highest ratings during the all-important 9pm to 10pm slot last night.

More than 4.3 million peak viewers tuned in to get an insight into a day in the life of officers and medical staff, as they cope with violent inmates among the 500-capacity population in the prison, securing ITV1 with an 18% average audience share.

Meanwhile, BBC One’s penultimate Mistresses, which saw the drama surrounding the four female friends start to come to an explosive end ready for next week’s final episode, attracted almost 4 million peak viewers and a 16.4% average share.

At the same time, Five’s ever-popular CSI: Crime Scene Investigation just pipped BBC One with almost 4 million peak viewers and a slightly higher 16.7% share – securing Five with the second highest ratings during the peak hour after ITV1.

Elsewhere, Channel 4’s Heston’s Tudor Feast picked up 2.3 million average viewers and a 9.9% share, while BBC Two’s long-running Horizon, titled ‘Who Do You Want Your Child To Be?’, attracted 1.3 million average viewers a a 5.7% share.

Earlier on in the evening, ITV1’s Emmerdale and BBC One’s Eastenders came head-to-head in a battle for the highest soap ratings – both programmes managed to attract the highest figures of the night with 6.5 million peak viewers each, however, Emmerdale claimed the top spot with a 28.8% average audience share compared to Eastenders‘ 27.7% share.
