BBC Magazines to launch new kids title

BBC Logo BBC Magazines is set to launch a new pre-school title called Waybuloo Magazine, to fall in line with the launch of the Waybuloo TV series on CBeebies this summer.

The new title, which will be published fortnightly, will be targeted at three to five-year-olds and have a cover price of £2.35, according to reports.

BBC Magazines has acquired a licence to publish the new title from RDF Kids – the production company behind Waybuloo TV, which will be broadcast in the spring.

The publisher says the title will help children develop their social and emotional learning.

Pauline Cooke, the publisher of BBC pre-school magazines, said: “Waybuloo addressed how children of this age can sometimes struggle to understand their emotions, their impact on the world and the people closest to them. The magazine really does have the feel-good factor for parents and children and will be a great addition to our portfolio.”

Other pre-school BBC magazines, such as Bob the Builder and Toybox have seen their circulations decline over the past two years, with Bob the Builder falling from around 79,000 copies in July – December 2006 to 45,500 copies in July – December 2008, while Toybox has fallen to 48,000 copies from 91,000 over the same period.
