Football attracts majority of viewers

Football ITV1’s Live UEFA Champions League coverage pulled in the highest ratings throughout most of the match last night, with more than 7.6 million peak viewers.

The Manchester United V FC Porto quarterfinal game, which ended in a 2-all draw, attracted 5.9 million average viewers and a 25.6% share between 7.30pm and 10pm.

Elsewhere, BBC One’s new drama – All the Small Things – with Sarah Lancashire and Neil Pearson, picked up more than 4.6 million peak viewers (the highest ratings during the 9.45pm and 10pm slot) and a 17.6% average share during the 9pm to 10pm peak-hour.

At the same time, Five’s ever-popular CSI: Crime Scene Investigation attracted almost 3 million peak viewers and a 11.5% share – putting it ahead of Channel 4 and BBC Two during the all-important peak slot.

Channel 4’s new documentary series questioning whether the NHS is being pushed to the limit, The Hospital, pulled in more than 2 million average viewers, while Two’s new Horse People with Alexandra Tolstoy picked up just 878,000 viewers.

Earlier on in the evening, Eastenders‘ claimed the overall highest ratings with 8.7 million average viewers and a 40% share between 7.30pm and 8pm.
