Regionals Embrace Multimedia Revolution
The first phase of ISOP (the Newspaper Society’s ongoing 1993 multimedia research initiative) is published today in an 18 page report entitled The Multimedia Revolution. Conducted by Meta£Generics, the report describes a vision of the future in which new technologies – On-Line or CD-ROM/CD-i – will radically change regional publishing markets in terms of product diversity and editorial strengths.
The report recommends regional publishers should consolidate their assets by selecting a portfolio of products and services which converge with expected consumer behaviour in the emerging multimedia network environment. Trials of early services should be designed and implemented. New alliances will have to be pro-actively formed in order to win a profitable position in the evolving electronic distribution market.
The next stage of ISOP is a Top Management Forum for N.S members at the end of September.
