Janet Street Porter To Head Cable TV Channel
Janet Street Porter announced yesterday that she is leaving the BBC to become managing director of the Mirror Group’s new cable television channel, Live TV. Street-Porter, currently head of independent production for BBC TV’s entertainment group, said, “I wanted to start a channel from scratch editorially. What’s always driven me is writing new types of programming. This is a really good opportunity to do that.”
Street Porter will take over as managing director of the cable channel next month. Live TV, which does not yet have a launch date, will be a mainstream information and entertainment channel.
….David Nicholas, former chairman and chief executive of ITN, has been appointed consulting editor of Associated Newspapers’ cable channel, Channel One, due to launch on November 30.
