Channel Four Autumn Schedule
Channel 4’s autumn schedule, released today, is hailed as its “most challenging yet”, for both viewer and other commercial stations. One highlight is four feature-length films from Alan Bleasdale. Other films, in the Film on Four Season include The Crying Game, Peter’s Friends and The Long Day Closes.
There is a return for C4’s two BAFTA winning comedies, Drop The Dead Donkey and Rory Bremner Who Else?, there is also a return series of Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush. Alexei Sayle stars in Paris, as a painter striving for fame. Clive Anderson’s Talk Back also returns.
Factual highlights include a new series of Cutting Edge, this season covering subjects such as dentists, bodyguards, prisons and Marie Claire magazine. There is a new series, called The Nick, which is a fly-on-the-wall version of The Bill. Well established series such as Dispatches and Critical Eye return. Muriel Gray has a new weekly series called Ride On, examining transport. Scrimpers is a six part series on ways to save money.
Arts are covered by Without Walls, The Turner Prize and For Love or Money. C4’s popular youth programmes return; Eurotrash, Moviewatch and The Word. There is also a new travel programme for young people, Lonely Planet. Ryan Giggs and Bobby Charlton give advice in Ryan Gigg’s Soccer Skills.
Brookside, Big Breakfast and Sesame Street all continue. C4’s Schools series continues with Fourways Farm and First Edition.
Big films include Un Coeur en Hiver, Clint Eastwood in White Hunter, Black Heart and Barton Fink.
