Overnights: BBC One banks a peak run

BBC Logo BBC One stole the show last night with a peak-run of Eastenders, Celebrity Masterchef, The Best Job in the World and Question Time.

The Best Job in the World, a one-off documentary about a dream job on a Great Barrier Reed island with a £70,000 salary and luxury accommodation, secured the highest ratings during the all-important 9pm to 10pm peak hour.

Almost 4 million peak viewers tuned in to see the four Britons who made it into the final 50 candidates in the race for the job, securing a 18.6% average audience share for BBC One.

Earlier on in the evening, BBC One’s flagship soap Eastenders attracted more than 6.8 million peak viewers and an impressive 38.4% share, while the final of Celebrity Masterchef continued with a high of 4.6 million viewers and a 23.2% share.

BBC One also dominated the day-time ratings with its Wimbledon coverage, which saw the Williams sisters both get through to final on Saturday, pulling in 2.4 million average viewers and a 28.8% share between 1.45pm and 6pm.

Over on ITV1, Emmerdale managed to win over the peak audience briefly with 5.3 million viewers and a 32.5% average share between 7pm and 7.30pm.

The channel’s peak-hour programme, Trail & Retribution, with David Hayman and Dorian Lough, pulled in 2.6 million average viewers and a 13.2% share.

At the same time, Five’s popular The Mentalist picked up 2.2 million average viewers and a respectable 11.7% share, while Channel 4’s new peak-time programme, Gerry’s Big Decision, attracted 1.2 million viewers and a 9.6% share.
