Overnights: The Street claims the top spot once again

The Street Jimmy McGovern’s The Street drama continued to shine last night, securing the highest ratings for BBC One during the all-important peak hour with more than 4.4 million viewers.

The third episode in the six-part series, starring Jonas Armstrong, held on to a 20.4% average audience share during the hour-long slot, despite competition from ITV’s comedy drama Monday Monday.

The Fay Ripley and Holly Aird series, which is also on episode three, attracted a high of 3 million viewers and a 12.1% average share between 9pm and 10pm.

At the same time, Five’s The Hotel Inspector just managed to pip BBC Two to third place in the prime time ratings war with 1.9 million average viewers and a 8.85% share, compared to The Supersizers Eat‘s 1.9 million viewers and 8.82% share.

Channel 4’s new two part The Scandalous Adventures of Lord Byron with Rupert Everett, meanwhile, picked up just 1.3 million average viewers and a 6.3% share.

Earlier on in the evening, the soaps dominate the ratings as usual. BBC One’s Eastenders just managed to bank the top spot in terms of viewing figures with a high of 8.28 million, however, ITV1’s Coronation Street secured the highest audience share with an impressive 40.6%.
