ITV’s Whitechapel attracted over 7.3 million peak viewers and an impressive 28.3% audience share during the all-important 9pm to 10pm peak-slot last night.
More than 7.1 million average viewers tuned in to see the second of three episodes of the investigative drama, starring Rupert Penry-Jones.
ITV also won the battle of the soaps last night, with Coronation Street pulling in more than 10 million peak viewers in both the earlier show at 7.30pm and the later programme at 8.30pm.
However, BBC One’s Eastenders didn’t come far behind with 9.7 million viewers and a 38.7% audience share during the middle, between 8pm and 8.30pm.
Meanwhile, BBC One’s popular Who Do You Think You Are? attracted more than 6.1 million peak viewers and a 23.1% average audience share between 9pm and 10pm.
The programme looked into television presenter Fiona Bruce’s family roots – focusing on her great-grandfather’s life in World War One.
At the same time, Channel 4’s new documentary – The Princess and the Gangster – picked up more than 1.8 million peak viewers and a 7% audience share.
The documentary explored Princess Margaret’s association with action John Bindon, one of London’s most notorious and violent gangsters.
