US and UK satellite broadcasters are joining forces to produce a draft directive they wish the EEC to adopt, which would outlaw satellite piracy throughout the Community. Currently manufacture of unauthorised decoders is only illegal in the UK and France.
The decoders which pose a severe threat to BSkyB, who introduced their subscription based Sky Multi-Channels package in September, are openly available in the UK – providing a picture quality indistinguishable from official decoders.
