Review Of Food Ads Aimed At Children

The Government’s National Nutrition Task Force, a body set up to implement the Health of the Nation White Paper, has called for reviews in food advertising practices.

The task force has rejected calls from campaigners to restrict or ban products from children’s programmes, asking only that the codes of practice from the ITC and Advertising Standards Authority be reviewed. The most controversial issue is the heavy promotion of fatty snacks and chocolate bars aimed at children.

The Advertising Association has said that the health issue is disguising the attitude by some groups that no advertising should be targeted at children at all.
