The ITVA has lodged a formal complaint with the EC over the new article 14 adopted by Uefa which could prevent the broadcast of ITV’s ‘The Match’. The rule attempts to impose the ban on transmission of live football matches between 12 noon and 4pm – Uefa believe such a ban would protect attendances.
BskyB’s transmissions would not be affected by the ban as their ‘kick-off’ is usually not until after 4pm.
The ITV companies also intend to lodge a complaint with the OFT.
