US Media Groups Agree Cable TV Deal
Times Mirror, the US media group, is to sell its cable television operations to Cox Enterprises for about $2.3bn. This would create the third largest US cable TV company, after TeleCommunications and Time Warner.
Research carried out by BT and Norwegian Telecom into video on demand services suggests that films and TV programmes may not be as key to the service as was anticipated. While videos and TV will still form a major part of the BT on demand service, this research has shown that it should not be the only important one; other important services would be educational programming, local community information and home shopping.
