The shareholders of the Independent have decided to cut the price of the paper; by how much will be decided at a meeting on Sunday. The price cutting decision is part of a number of editorial and business decisions that will form part of a formal agreement between MGN and Newspaper Publishing. No such formal agreement had been signed because of the delay in appointing an editor.
The paper will remain a premium product, aimed at the top end of the market; the price cut is expected to take effect from as early as Monday.
