CAMPAIGN AGAINST VAT ON READING UPPED

The campaign against imposing VAT on the publishing industry is being stepped up just before the November budget.

The Periodical Publishers Association is sharing a stand at the Conservative Party Conference in Blackpool with the Advertising Association. MP’s will be bombarded with anti-VAT material.

The Newspaper Society has also released research showing that the majority of cabinet ministers retain strong links with their local newspapers, writing columns or articles.

The Newspaper Society claims that two hundred and forty five local and regional papers will close if VAT is imposed on printed matter in the budget this November.
