The Independent Television Commission has written to Yorkshire Television to express concern over recent storyline in Emmerdale. The programme carried a Lockerbie-style air disaster close to the anniversary of the air crash.
The ITC has received 64 complaints, with over 1,000 complaints sent directly to ITV companies. Although the programmes did not breach the ITC code, the ITC said that it was “surprised and disappointed by the insensitivity shown”.
The storyline began on Thursday 30 December, and attracted over 13 million viewers, some 3 million more than usual.
