Record Amount Spent On Magazines

According to research issued by the PPA, people are spending more on magazines than ever before.

The 12 month review by Wessenden Marketing has revealed that consumer magazines increased their growth rate during the first half of 1995, and the report reveals that people are expected to spend more than £1.6 billion on magazines this year.

With an overall sales growth of 1.2% and cover prices running aggressively at 6.2%, well above inflation levels, the retail value of the magazine market rose by 8.1% between the first half of 1994 and the first half of 1995 and considerably up on 1994’s second half year performance. Overall the market is expected to increase by some 10% in 1995.

A large number of launches of new magazines are attributable to the large growth. In the past year there have been 548 new titles launched mainly in the computing, football and men’s genres.
