BBC One dominated Saturday night viewing, with a very impressive peak of 4.3 million tuning in for the return of Match of the Day.

An average of four million viewers watched the whole round-up show, which included Arsenal’s demolition of Everton, giving BBC One a 26.6% share of viewers.

Earlier in the evening, Total Wipeout had a peak audience of 4.8 million – a 27.3% share. The zany game-show, on at 7.20pm, had an average audience of 4.2 million for its hour long running time.

Of the other channels, ITV1’s epic movie King Kong, on from 6.50pm to 10.15pm, had a peak audience of 2.8 million (a 14.9% share) with an average of 2.3 million viewers sticking with it for its duration (a 12.6% share).

BBC One was a big hit again on Sunday evening, with a peak of 5.5 million viewers watching Rivers with Griff Rhys Jones at 9pm.
