Sky Sports secures rights to La Liga

Sky Sports has signed a new deal for exclusive live TV rights to La Liga matches for the next three seasons.

The sports channel will air at least two live matches from each weekend of Spain’s top football season, starting with Real Madrid v Deportivo this Saturday.

The new deal, which covers the 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons, will also see the return of Sky’s weekly football show, Revista de La Liga on September 1.

Barney Francis, managing director of Sky Sports, said: “We are delighted to continue our long association with the best in Spanish football – it’s now 13 years since Sky Sports viewers first enjoyed the glamour of La Liga.”

Sky Sports already holds the TV rights to broadcast live matches from the English Premier League, Coca-Cola Football League, Scottish Premier League, Carling Cup, Scottish Cup, Northern Ireland’s IFA Premiership and live international football, including home World Cup Qualifiers for Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
