Emmerdale 2000th Episode Beats Eastenders

Yorkshire television’s soap opera Emmerdale, which celebrated its 2000th episode on Thursday 17th August at 7pm, beat its Eastenders rival which started half an hour later by 2.5 million viewers. The consolidated share for the whole hour of Emmerdale was 56% compared to just 40% for Eastenders.
BBC1 scored more success with its coverage of the VJ night commemorations. The Saturday night edition attracted 9.04 million viewers, which was the second highest watched programme of Saturday night behind the National Lottery. The Sunday night edition which culminated with the Queen’s balcony appearance at Buckingham Palace peaked at 8.5 million viewers and averaged 7.17 million, while ITV’s repeat showing of Prime Suspect only managed 6.13 million.
Channel 4’s Friday night line up of comedies is starting to strengthen, with Friends, the second comedy offering of the night, appearing in Channel 4’s top ten programme list for the first time with 2.93 million viewers.
