European Revamp – Review

European Revamp – Review

Today The European launches with a new redesigned paper. The focus of the paper has shifted from direct news to more in-depth analysis and commentary on the news, from an emphasised European point of view. As the editor says on the front page, “Europe is changing, and The European is changing with it.”

The first section is broadsheet, and 16 pages; the first two of which give straight news. There follows analysis on subjects such as Chernobyl, the European Union, Bosnia, Northern Ireland and the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The articles are written by European nationals, thus giving a European perspective rather than a British. The final three pages of the first section carry sport.

The second section carries business and finance news. With 32 pages there is more emphasis in this field. Again the first pages cover news, followed by in-depth review and comment, on subjects such as the future of the Bank of Switzerland, Spain’s tobacco industry and Germany’s social economic crisis.

The third section has shifted from broadsheet to tabloid size. The 32 pageculture and lifestyle section was described by the Marketing Manager as “A celebration of the best that is European”. There is a diary section, an analysis of Alessandra Mussolini, regular features on European film, art, music, books, as well as a round-up of the best cultural events in Europe this week. There are also sections on travel food, health and homes.

Advertisers include Delta Airlines, Saab, BP, Japan Airlines and Europcar.
