Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire proved to be a magical success for ITV during the all-important peak slot last night.
The fantasy adventure film based on JK Rowling’s bestselling book attracted a high of more than 5.8 million peak viewers and a 24.2% average audience share between 7pm and 9.45pm.
However, BBC One’s long-running Crimewatch managed to win over the peak audience in the final fifteen minutes of the 9pm to 10pm peak hour with a high of 4.5 million viewers.
The last in the series of BBC Two’s popular Dragon’s Den also performed well in the prime time slot with 3.6 million average viewers and a 15.9% audience share.
At the same time, Channel 4’s Big Brother picked up just over 2 million peak viewers and a 8.3% share, while Five’s 9 o’clock film Cradle 2 the Grave banked 1.1 million viewers and a 5.9% share.
Earlier on in the evening, which remains soap-less due to ITV1’s recent schedule overhaul, BBC Two’s documentary series This World returned with a respectable 2.2 million peak viewers.
