The number of members accessing Facebook via a mobile handset has risen to 65 million, up from 20 million in February.
Facebook has attributed to significant rise to the improvements in the mobile service’s functionality, the growth of SMS alerts and an increase in the number of dedicated Facebook applications.
Free access offers by mobile phone operators including Orange have also boosted the number of mobile users accessing the social network.
In addition, Facebook has recently launched the Facebook Connect for Mobile Web, which allows third-party mobile sites to tie-in users’ profile information.
The network’s head of mobile Henri Moissinac said the company will always look to grow its mobile distribution – “That’s why we’re continually making updates to our mobile products and working with some of the biggest names in mobile to make sure Facebook is available on the latest devices and mobile operating systems,” he said.
