BBC One secured the highest ratings from 7.30pm onwards yesterday evening with a peak run of Eastenders, Holby City and the new Lost Land of the Volcano.

Eastenders pulled in the most viewers with a high of almost 8 million and a impressive 38.9% average audience share, followed by Holby City‘s 5.6 million viewers and 25.9% share.

The channel’s new peak-time show, meanwhile, picked up a respectable 4.1 million average viewers and a 18% share between 9pm and 10pm.

Lost Land of the Volcano, which was available in high-definition,  saw scientists and wildlife film-makers explore Mount Bosavi in New Guinea’s previously unexplored rainforest.

Elsewhere, the second episode of ITV1’s six-part series The Fixer, starring Tamzin Outhwaithe and Andrew Buchan, attracted a high of 3.7 million viewers and a 15.4% average audience share between 9pm and 10pm.

The three remaining terrestrial channels battled it out for third place in the peak-hour ratings war.  Jamie Oliver’s American Road Trip just managed to bank the top spot for Channel 4 with 2.4 million viewers.

At the same time, BBC Two’s The Choir: Unsung Town picked up 2.3 million viewers, while Five’s ever-popular CSI: Miami secured 2 million average viewers.
