Burger King has announced it is to sponsor both the English and Welsh National football teams. Sponsorship of the England team begins tonight with the friendly against Columbia, and will continue to beyond the UEFA Euro 96 Championships to be held in England next June. The Welsh sponsorship begins with today’s fixture against Moldova.
Both sponsorship deals involve a series of player and team appearances, perimeter signage at fixtures and rights to use the team logos.
Burger King’s announcement comes weeks after McDonald’s announced a deal with the Premier League, which gave it rights to use the FA Premier League logo in all marketing activity.
Samantha Smith, head of marketing at Burger King, commented, “Football is our national sport and its still growing in popularity. It is youthful, entertaining and fashionable, and so is Burger King.”
