New Saatchi Gains Quantas Account
Quantas, the Australian airline which is 25% owned by British Airways, has announced it has moved its account from Saatchi & Saatchi to New Saatchi, taking with it £28m of advertising; it had been expected that this would go to a different agency following the earlier announcement of the main BA account.
Mr Ed Wax, Saatchi and Saatchi chief executive said the agency had “already been preparing for the worst case scenario”. The aim was to keep key staff in place and attempt to win other airline business. About 200 staff had been working on the account.
According to Cordiant, Saatchi and Saatchi’s parent company, revenue from the BA account amounted to less than 1% of the groups revenue in 1994.
Staff numbers at the New Saatchi’s office in London are to increase from 40 to 70 and several members of the BA team at Saatchi & Saatchi are expected to move.
