Cinema Admissions Down 33% Year On Year

The average weekly cinema admissions for March were 1.79 million; this is a decrease of 33.3% year on year and a decrease of 27.8% on February’s admission figures. The average for the quarter was 2.14 million; this is a decrease on last year of 17.5%.

The big decreases on the same period last year can be attributed to the successful films which were released in the first quarter of 1994; among them Mrs Doubtfire, Philadelphia and The Pelican Brief. Mrs Doubtfire was the second most successful film of 1994 behind Four Weddings, with 21 million going to see it.

The admissions total for March was 7.9 million, compared to 9.9 million in February and 11.8 million last March.
