Google has appointed Torsten Schuppe as its first marketing director for the UK and Ireland.

Schuppe joins from online auctioneer eBay, where he headed a regional team as European marketing director.

He begins his new role at the end of November and will be responsible for marketing the company’s search business, as well as its applications and Chrome web browser.

Before joining eBay in 2006, Schuppe worked in several different roles throughout Europe for German media group Bertelsmann.

The move follows the promotion of Dan Cobley to take on additional European responsibilities.
