TV Overnights: New Tricks claims the top spot once again

New Tricks

BBC One’s New Tricks continued to dominate the Thursday evening line-up last night, peaking with a high of 4.8 million viewers.

The long-running crime drama, starring Alun Armstrong and Amanda Redman, pulled in 4.7 million average viewers and a 29.9% audience share during the all-important 9pm to 10pm peak-hour.

ITV1’s The Bill, meanwhile, peaked with 4.3 million viewers in the first fifteen minutes but slipped down to 3.9 million average viewers and a 17.4% share during the full hour-long slot.

Channel 4’s latest Cutting Edge documentary, Katie: My Beautiful Face, didn’t come far behind with 3.1 million average viewers and a 13.6% share.

The one-off programme examined the story of a 24-year-old former model whose face was disfigured in a vicious acid attack.

At the same time, the remaining two terrestrial channels struggled to keep up.

BBC Two’s Defying Gravity, which aired between 9pm and 9.45pm, picked up 887,000 average viewers, while the first in a new eight-part documentary series for the channel, Wonderland: The British in Bed, pulled in 668,000 viewers between 9.45pm and 10.30pm.

Five’s Vice Squad, meanwhile, attracted just 670,000 average viewers and a 2.9% audience share during the all-important 9pm to 10pm slot.

Earlier on in the evening, BBC One’s Eastenders claimed the top soap spot with a high of 8.3 million viewers.  ITV1’s Coronation Street slipped below its rival with 7.7 million viewers, despite the much-publicised ‘Tony’ storyline.
